Year 7-8 Sports Draws & Results

Year 7-8 Sporting Opportunities

At Te Paepae o Aotea, we offer a wide range of sporting opportunities for Year 7-8 students throughout the year. Students can represent the school in a variety of competitive and social sports, developing their skills, teamwork, leadership, and school pride. Our sporting programmes provide opportunities to compete against schools from across South Taranaki and the wider region, with many of our teams achieving outstanding success in local competitions and tournaments.

Southern Rippa Rugby
Te Paepae o Aotea enters multiple teams into the Southern Rugby Rippa Rugby Tournament, a highly competitive competition held over several weeks during Term 1 on a Thursday afternoon. Schools from across South Taranaki take part. Our teams have enjoyed considerable success in recent years, consistently finishing among the top five schools and proudly claiming the tournament championship in 2025.

Taranaki Rippa Rugby Tournament
The Taranaki Rippa Rugby Tournament is a highly competitive event that brings together teams from across the region. Schools first compete in separate South Taranaki and North Taranaki tournaments, with the top teams progressing to the Taranaki Rippa Rugby Finals Day. From there, the tournament winners have the opportunity to advance to a regional competition.

Te Paepae o Aotea has a proud record in this competition, with our teams regularly qualifying for the Taranaki Finals Day. Their success reflects the strength of our Rippa Rugby programme and the skill, teamwork, and determination shown by our students each year.

Hāwera Mixed Basketball Competition
Te Paepae o Aotea enters up to four teams each year in the Year 7-8 Hāwera Mixed Basketball Competition, held at the TSB Hub on Wednesday evenings during Term 2. This is a strong and well-supported competition. Te Paepae o Aotea has enjoyed considerable success over the years, with our teams regularly finishing in the top three and winning the competition in 2025. The competition provides students with an excellent opportunity to develop their basketball skills, teamwork, and game understanding while representing their school with pride.

Hāwera Satellite Netball Competition
Te Paepae o Aotea enters multiple teams into the Year 7-8 Hāwera Satellite Netball Competition, which is held on Saturday mornings during Term 2 at the TSB Hub netball courts. Students compete against teams from primary schools across the South Taranaki District in a well-organised and competitive competition. This league provides an excellent opportunity for players to develop their netball skills, fitness, teamwork, and game knowledge.

Year 7-8 Cricket
Te Paepae o Aotea has a strong history in Year 7-8 cricket and has been a regular contender in the Timberco Bash, with our girls’ team winning 1st Place in 2025. Throughout the cricket season, students have the opportunity to compete in a range of one-day tournaments, developing their skills and representing the school with pride.

Year 7-8 Sports Exchanges
During Term 2, Year 7-8 students have the opportunity to participate in three annual Intermediate Sports Exchanges. Students can trial for a range of sporting codes, including Basketball, Netball, Rugby 7s, Rippa Rugby, Hockey, Football, Chess, Table Tennis, and Face the Challenge, with multiple teams selected across several codes.

The exchanges are held against Highlands Intermediate, Devon Intermediate, and Manukorihi Intermediate, with each school taking turns hosting the events. These exchanges provide a fantastic opportunity for students to compete at a high level, represent Te Paepae o Aotea with pride, and build school spirit. With such a wide variety of activities on offer, there is truly something for everyone. Te Paepae o Aotea continues to grow stronger each year, making these exchanges a highlight of the Year 7-8 sporting calendar.

Year 7-8 Swimming Championships
Each year, our top Year 7-8 competitive swimmers have the opportunity to represent Te Paepae o Aotea at the Taranaki Year 7-8 Swimming Championships. Students compete against talented swimmers from schools across Taranaki, showcasing their skills and determination in the pool.

Held annually during Term 1 at a different host venue each year, this event provides an exciting day of competition, personal achievement, and school pride. It is a fantastic opportunity for students to challenge themselves and represent Te Paepae o Aotea at a regional level.
