2026 Hockey at Te Paepae o Aotea

TPOA 1st XI Mixed Hockey

Theo Soothill
The hockey team had a successful year in 2025 built on commitment and a positive team culture. Throughout the season nothing came easy, we competed in an extremely competitive grade providing us with challenges every time we set foot onto the turf. This season welcomed many new players, and it was great to see them fit right in and contribute to the team. The group of new young players really made huge additions to the team and allowed all to notice the steady improvement from the season start to finish.
Throughout the regular season the hockey team had an impressive record of 7 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss. Finishing second on the overall ladder. This record shows the teams strong resilience and determination. After another solid season under the belt for all our players our team was ready to play for the North Island Mixed Woolaston trophy. This year the Woolaston trophy was held in Stratford. The team faced new challenges at tournament week putting everyone to the test. Our first game came down to a nail biting 3-2 finish to the opposition. Although a loss in our first game was disheartening, we knew that it wasn’t the end, it motivated us to lift our performance and show the team spirit that we thrived on all season.
In our following pool games, we had two more hard fought games for a draw and win. All four teams in our pool finished on 4 points, and due to the points difference we came 3rd brutally missing out on first position by 1 goal. We had an extremely challenging game on day 4 and unfortunately faced a loss, meaning we would be facing our neighbours and the hosts on our final day. On our final day determined to finish strong we trumped Stratford finishing off our week with a win and nice way to round out a successful season for the hockey team.

We have completed our lockdown EXERCISE and all all students, staff and persons on site are safely accounted for.
