Basketball

Basketball is a popular and successful sport at Te Paepae o Aotea, supported by our dedicated staff, coaches, and volunteers from the wider community. Their commitment helps provide students with opportunities to develop their skills, build confidence, and enjoy competitive basketball at a variety of levels.

Our Senior Basketball team competes in the Taranaki Secondary Schools Senior Development Grade on Monday evenings, while our Junior Basketball team plays in the Junior Premier Grade on Thursday evenings. Games are held throughout the Taranaki region during Terms 2 and 3, with home games played at the TSB Hub on Camberwell Road. For away fixtures, our teams travel together in a school van.

Our Year 7 and 8 students compete in the Hawera Basketball Association Year 7-8 competition on Wednesday evenings during Term 2 at the TSB Hub. This competition provides an excellent opportunity for students to play against teams of  intermediate age schools across South Taranaki.

Te Paepae o Aotea has enjoyed considerable success on the basketball court. Our teams have achieved runner-up placings in their respective grades and performed strongly at the 2025 Taranaki Steelformers Year 9-10 Basketball Classic Tournament. Our Year 7 and 8 teams continue to be highly competitive, demonstrating excellent teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship.
