The Arts at Te Paepae o Aotea

Arts is a living and breathing part of life at Te Paepae o Aotea.

It is our mission to instil in our students a lifelong love for the creative Arts. The Arts are accessible to all students. We create meaningful opportunities to explore the arts and creativity within and outside the classroom.

Our learning tasks aim to be open ended; students explore, inquire and develop a range of skills both as individuals and within a group. The benefit of the Arts within our school has shown students are able to be themselves and able to find their voice. This instils confidence within their own identity.

Visual Art students direct their learning and have chances to explore their identity. Our team encourage risk taking and celebrates the learning within the process of creating. Engaging in making artworks that are on display within our kura emphasises student’s sense of belonging and ownership of the physical school space.

Within Performing Arts – Music and Drama, we aim to foster a culture of honesty and bravery within performance. Taking risks and celebrating being courageous reflects our school value of paepae.

Outside of school, our Arts practitioners pursue their own creative expertise and passions; whether it be Music, Musical theatre, Drama, Singing, exhibiting artworks and supporting the arts within our South Taranaki Arts community.
